Goodyear Police trial set for November
City of Goodyear

Maricopa County Superior Court will reexamine an alleged police battery case involving a Goodyear police officer in a November trial after a high court decided the county erred when it dismissed the claim without review.
The trial will be held from Nov. 14 to 21 at 201 W. Jefferson Street (East Building) in Phoenix. Residents are welcome to attend the proceedings.
The case stems from a 2018 traffic stop. In that stop, Renee Armenta was pulled over near Dysart Road and Van Buren Street by Goodyear Police after an officer discovered she was driving with a revoked license.
During an initial traffic stop, Armenta was asked to step out of the vehicle and told that she was being placed under arrest.
Representatives of Armenta, filed a new legal complaint against the officer and the city of Goodyear in December. The complaint alleges that a Goodyear police officer acted aggressively by using willful, excessive, and unreasonable force.
It also claims the officer erred when he did not inform Armenta as to why he was arresting her.
Tammy Vo, city of Goodyear Director of Digital Communications, released the following statement.
"The Court of Appeals general findings support the city of Goodyear's position in this case; that the city's actions were lawful and appropriate given the circumstances," she said.
