Goodyear police arrest two caregivers on child abuse charges

School report prompted investigation

Posted

Goodyear police arrested two caregivers on child abuse charges after a school report led to an investigation involving two children, ages 7 and 8.

Police identified the caregivers as Kebrina Hussain, 30, and Ezekiel Hussain, 29, in an Oct. 27 news release.

The investigation began Aug. 3 after school personnel reported that one child had significant weight loss, an extremely thin appearance, facial bruising and a lip injury, police stated.

Medical examinations documented malnutrition, bruising and injuries to the bottom of the child’s foot, according to police. A subsequent evaluation found no medical explanation for the malnutrition. The child gained significant weight after receiving adequate nutrition, police stated.

During a forensic interview, the child described being denied regular meals, punched and slapped, and repeatedly injured on the bottom of the foot with a metal object, according to police.

Detectives also identified allegations that both caregivers physically abused the other child while that child was in their care, police stated.
