The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile gave shoppers a reason to stop during an Oct. 21 visit to Fry’s in Goodyear.
Behind the wheel were Lauren Trippeer and Aiden Jaffe, known as “Lucky Dog Lauren” and “All Beef Aiden.” The two greeted visitors and handed out whistles and coupons outside the store at 16380 W. Yuma Road.
“It’s like a parade everywhere we go,” Jaffe said.
Jaffe said the highlight of the Goodyear stop was seeing people’s excitement as they approached the 27-foot hot dog on wheels.
The two hotdoggers began traveling through the western United States in June after completing two weeks of training at “Hot Dog High,” where they practiced driving the vehicle.
Trippeer said she grew up with a Wienermobile ornament on her family’s Christmas tree, but she didn’t see the vehicle in person until attending the Indianapolis 500 during her junior year of college. After talking with the drivers, she decided to apply.
“I knew I wanted the job,” she said.
Jaffe discovered the program through a job listing a family member sent him while he was in college. He liked the idea of traveling and meeting people around the country.
Their route has included Washington, Oregon and Montana. They take turns driving as the attention follows them between stops.
As their year on the road continues, Trippeer said the goal at each stop stays the same.
“The entire goal of the Wienermobile is to make people happy, make them smile and to bring something out of the ordinary to everyday life,” she said.
