A Goodyear officer resigned last month as the city’s police department investigated the potential misuse of automatic license plate readers, authorities said Friday.
Kristopher Jackson submitted his resignation effective Sept. 17, but the department continued its administrative investigation “to ensure a thorough review of the allegations and appropriate accountability,” according to a release.
The investigation resulted in three “sustained policy violations,” the department release stated. They included abuse of authority, violation of body-worn camera policy and dishonesty, police said.
Police Chief Brian Issitt determined that termination would have been the appropriate disciplinary action had the officer remained employed by the department.
Jackson’s use of Goodyear’s Flock cameras also placed him under criminal investigation by Glendale police, but the department found insufficient evidence to recommend charges, according to the release.
"Accountability does not end when an employee resigns," Issitt said. “We followed this investigation through to its conclusion because our community deserves nothing less."
