Cities and towns across the West Valley joined together Sunday to recognize June 23 as Westmarc Day, celebrating the regional impact of the Western Maricopa Coalition and its 35-year legacy of public-private collaboration.
The date mimics the 623 area code, which spans much of the West Valley and has come to represent a shared identity among its 1.8 million residents.
Local governments from 13 municipalities, including Goodyear, Peoria, Avondale, Glendale, and Litchfield Park, issued proclamations marking the day in celebration of Westmarc’s contributions to the region’s economic growth, quality of life, and future potential.
“Westmarc serves as the united voice of 15 communities, including Litcfield Park representing municipalities, businesses, educational institutions and nonprofit community leaders committed to shaping a prosperous future for the West Valley of Metro Phoenix,” said Litchfield Park Mayor Thomas Schoaf in a city proclamation.
Founded in 1990, Westmarc is a public-private partnership that brings together municipal governments, businesses, educational institutions, and nonprofits to advocate for strategic regional priorities. These include economic development, education, workforce advancement, infrastructure, housing, and the overall livability of the West Valley.
To mark its 35th anniversary this year, Westmarc unveiled a refreshed brand and strategic vision that emphasizes the region as “elevated, thriving, united, and opportunity-rich.”
The West Valley now accounts for nearly half of all projected growth in Maricopa County during the next 25 years, positioning it as a key driver in Arizona’s economic future. Westmarc continues to support this transformation by promoting the area’s workforce strength, growing consumer base, and world-class amenities.
Westmarc describes itself as a unifying force for the West Valley, bringing together cities, businesses, educators and community leaders to advance regional priorities through collaboration and action.
“Westmarc continues to be a catalyst for collaboration, innovation, and advocacy on key regional priorities,” said Schoaf.
In addition to its policy work and advocacy, Westmarc states it provides its members with access to asset tours, issue committees, regional marketing, and networking events designed to highlight opportunities and address regional challenges. Westmarc has created more than 1,200 jobs since its launch in 2012.
