Seniors stroll the bases at Goodyear Ballpark

Posted

Seniors took to the field at Goodyear Ballpark on March 5 for Seniors Stroll the Bases, a postgame event that allows older adults to walk the bases after a Cincinnati Reds spring training game.

The event at Goodyear Ballpark, 1933 S. Ballpark Way was the second stroll following select weekday games.

With seniors making up approximately 18% of Goodyear’s estimated 116,694 residents, the event is part of the city’s broader efforts to engage its growing senior population. This demographic is a key part of the Goodyear community, and events like Seniors Stroll the Bases provide a fun and active way to connect.

“We want people to buy into the full Goodyear Ballpark experience," said Goodyear Ballpark Assistant General Manager, John Brown. "We try to instill that from the time fans park their car, to entering the stadium, to purchasing a hot dog that we are having a positive impact on those fans visiting Goodyear Ballpark and that's where we try to stand out."

The post game event drew a crowd to the game where the Reds lost 5-3 to the Texas Rangers. The turning point in the game came in the fifth inning with Nick Ahmed hitting a grand slam, bringing in four runs. The Estrella Foothills High School choir performed the national anthem, and fans joined in singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch.

“Having approximately 30 games each spring training at Goodyear Ballpark is a tourism driver for the city, attracting nearly 2 million fans over the years,” said Bruce Kessman, Goodyear Ballpark general manager. “This influx of fans in Goodyear not only boosts local businesses but also highlights Goodyear's vibrant community, enhancing its reputation as a welcoming destination for fans across and outside of the country.”

Seniors ages 55 and older can receive $5 off an Infield Box ticket for select games.
