Maricopa County Public Health event to highlight internship and fellowship opportunities for Goodyear residents
Posted
The Maricopa County Department of Public Health is inviting teens and adults to explore careers in public health through an upcoming event hosted at the Georgia T. Lord Library.
The event, organized by MCDPH’s Applied Professional Experiences APEX team, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the library’s Programming Room. Attendees will learn about a range of internship and fellowship programs aimed at preparing the next generation of public health professionals.
Designed for both teens and adults, the session will introduce participants to hands-on, real-world learning opportunities that integrate academic knowledge with field experience. The APEX team will present three primary programs: a public health internship, a two-year fellowship for recent graduates, and a supervised dietetic internship for those pursuing credentials as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists.
The event will also spotlight the Maricopa County Medical Reserve Corps, a volunteer initiative that trains community members to support local public health emergency responses and ongoing health efforts.
Public health internships include project-based work, professional development workshops, and a department-wide symposium. The paid fellowship program places graduates with advanced degrees on high-need public health projects across the county, offering mentoring and leadership development throughout the two-year term.
Dietetic interns complete a minimum of 1,000 supervised practice hours across clinical, community, and management settings. Graduates are eligible to take the national exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
The event is free and open to the public. Visit mcldaz.org for more information.
