Local fundraiser benefits 19 Southwest Valley schools

Posted

McDonald’s restaurants in Goodyear and Litchfield Park raised more than $10,684 for 19 local elementary schools during the annual McTeacher’s Night Challenge in February.

During the event, a portion of restaurant sales over a two-hour period was donated to participating schools.

Nineteen schools took part in the fundraiser: Centerra Mirage, Dreaming Summit, Scott Libby, Desert Thunder, Westar, Las Brisas Academy, Estrella Mountain, Michael Anderson, Rancho Santa Fe, Litchfield Elementary, Eliseo Felix, American Leadership Academy West Foothills, Wildflower, Rainbow Valley, Corte Sierra, Luke, Copper Trails, Desert Star and Mabel Padgett.

Darian Mellon, a McDonald’s owner, said the event is intended to support local schools and engage with the community.

"We are thrilled to continue our tradition of supporting our local schools through the McTeacher's Night Challenge,” said Mellon. “It's more than just a fundraising event; it's a way for us to connect with our community and make a meaningful impact. Our commitment to the Southwest Valley schools remains a cornerstone of our family's mission as local business owners."

Copper Trails Elementary School raised the most during the challenge and received an additional $1,000 donation, bringing its total to $1,749.

Scott Libby Elementary School placed second and received an additional $500 donation for a total of $1,096.

Centerra Mirage Elementary School and Michael Anderson Elementary School tied for third place and each received an additional $250 donation. Centerra Mirage raised $816 and Michael Anderson raised $810.

Since 2009, McDonald’s restaurants owned by the Mellon family have raised $187,475 for schools in the Southwest Valley.
