Goodyear marks Economic Development Week with business openings

Posted

Mayor Joe Pizzillo proclaimed May 12–16 as Economic Development Week in Goodyear, recognizing the role of economic development in the city’s growth and planning efforts.

The observance coincides with the International Economic Development Council’s (IEDC) national campaign, held annually since 2016. This year’s theme, "The Power of Partnerships," focuses on collaboration between organizations, governments, and communities to support local economies.

Several business developments were highlighted in Goodyear during the week. Buc-ee’s, a Texas-based travel center chain, has officially broken ground on its new location in the city. The project has drawn attention for its size and amenities and marks a new addition to Goodyear’s commercial landscape.

Dave’s Hot Chicken opened a new restaurant in GSQ, Goodyear’s downtown development area. The fast-casual chain specializes in spicy fried chicken and continues the trend of restaurant expansion in the area.

Great American Title Agency also celebrated its grand opening in GEN1 at GSQ. City representatives and local partners joined in the ribbon-cutting event. The agency provides title and escrow services to the region.

Another ribbon cutting was held for Fred Astaire Dance Studios  in Goodyear, which offers dance instruction and community programming.

These announcements all followed recent news that Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Black Rock Coffee Bar and Trader Joe’s plan to open locations in Goodyear's developing downtown.

Economic Development Week is intended to recognize the work of professionals and organizations involved in business attraction, retention, and workforce development. According to the IEDC, economic developers work in a variety of settings, including cities, counties, chambers of commerce, and public-private partnerships, and focus on strategies to support job creation and economic stability.

The IEDC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization with more than 4,500 members. For more information on Economic Development Week and the IEDC, visit iedconline.org.
