The city of Goodyear saw a record turnout for nonprofit assistance grant applications after the Goodyear Independent published a promotion brief in April.
According to Christina Panaitescu, community partnerships program manager for the city of Goodyear, the city received 53 applications.
“We received a record 53 applications. That's the most I've seen in my tenure with the city,” Panaitescu said in a council meeting June 10. “I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank Vice Mayor Kaino, Councilmember Campbell, and Councilmember Gillis; they demonstrated a sincere interest in meeting the greatest needs of our residents and a commitment to Goodyear.”
Panaitescu mentioned the April story in the Goodyear Independent as a contributing factor in the surge.
The city approved $214,400 in Goodyear community funding for 31 agencies as a result of outreach. This year, the city received a total of $660,304 in grant request money.
There were a total of 53 applications received, including more than 20 first-time applicants.
As a way to support essential programs and services, the city of Goodyear offered nonprofits an opportunity to apply for a grant as part of the city’s Community Funding Program.
Last year, the city awarded more than $160,000 in grants to 22 nonprofits, which included the Southwest Valley Family YMCA. With the grant money, they were able to provide low-and/or fixed income children and families within Goodyear with financial assistance, childcare, early learning and meal programs.
