DUI suspect in custody after striking female, child in Goodyear

Posted

Goodyear Police arrested a driver after they allegedly struck another vehicle, sending an adult female and child to the hospital with injuries.

According to police, the vehicle incident occurred near Van Buren Street and Dysart Road on April 23 at about 5:45 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the two individuals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both were transported to a local hospital and were later released.

Goodyear Police Lt. Jeff Carrion said investigators believe the unidentified driver may have been under the influence.

”Impairment is believed to be a factor in this collision,” he said. “The specific cause of impairment will be pending laboratory results.  The adult female and child were treated and released from the hospital.”

Police said the specific cause of intoxication will come from the state crime laboratory.

The Maricopa County Attorney deferred the criminal case to the city of Goodyear in November after telling the victims the office would not proceed with a felony prosecution, due to the ambiguity of THC DUI laws in Arizona.

According to a National Transportation Safety Board report, Quintana-Lujan reportedly drank shots, smoked marijuana and had unrecommended amounts of sleep the night before the early morning incident.
