Liberty schools' community advocates for principal's future at Estrella Mountain

Posted

The Liberty Elementary School District’s final governing board meeting of the year on Monday, Dec. 16, became the focal point of a growing concern as parents, students, and educators from Estrella Mountain Elementary School as they asked questions about the future of Principal Lynzee Booras.

Community members expressed fears in response to rumors that Booras may be reassigned or have her contract not renewed, despite her success in leading the school. Booras, who was present at the meeting, did not address the board during the public comment period.

A petition on Change.org, launched by members of the EMES community, has gained significant support, with nearly 1,900 signatures as of Dec. 19. The petition urges the school district to retain Booras, citing her leadership in guiding the school to an “A” rating and improving both student and staff retention rates.

“Under Mrs. Booras’s leadership, EMES has flourished,” the petition reads. “Her dedication has led to the retention of more students and teachers than any other school in the district. There is no reason to make a leadership change at a thriving school.”

The petition also reveals that Booras, who has expressed a desire to stay at EMES, declined a leadership opportunity at a new school, citing her deep emotional and professional investment in the school. However, the petition alleges that Superintendent Dr. Monroe has privately indicated a desire to remove Booras, a move some believe is motivated by personal reasons rather than the best interests of the school.

The school board did not respond to the public comments during the meeting and in a response to a comment request responded, "all employee contracts for the 2025-26 school year will be presented in the coming months, as they do each school year."

As the district navigates the issue, support for Booras continues to grow among the school community, with many urging the board to act in the best interest of the students and staff at Estrella Mountain.
