Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear has become the second hospital in Arizona to implement the da Vinci 5 surgical robot, following an investment of approximately $2.7 million.
This new technology features feedback capabilities that allow surgeons to feel subtle forces exerted on tissue during operations. The da Vinci 5 system enhances various surgical procedures, including colorectal surgery, hernia repair, appendectomy, and gallbladder removal.
“With this newest generation technology, we experience the same accuracy and precision we’ve always had with robotic assisted surgery, but it gets us closer to replicating human touch. You can sense the force being exerted on tissue or an organ, giving us surgeons important new data for decision making that can translate into less trauma on tissue” Dr. Sushil Pandey, a colorectal surgeon at Abrazo, stated.
Robotic-assisted surgery has become a standard practice for many minimally invasive procedures, often resulting in shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times, and smaller incisions and scars. In addition to its innovative touch function, the da Vinci 5 offers over 150 enhancements, including surgeon controllers, vibration and tremor controls, and a 3D imaging system.
“The continued investment by Abrazo West in the most advanced robotic surgical platforms equips our surgeons with the best technology to help our patients. The da Vinci 5 is especially exciting to add to our suite of advanced surgical technologies as it adds the human touch factor to the precision and accuracy of robotic assisted surgery” Hans Driessnack, CEO of Abrazo West Campus, stated.
