The Liberty Elementary School District will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest campus, Loretta Zumbro Elementary School, from 4:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at 2600 S. 183rd Ave. in Goodyear. A meet-the-teacher event will follow the ceremony.
Set to open in August, the K-8 school will initially serve students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade for the 2025–26 school year. Seventh and eighth grades will be added in the following two academic years. The campus is designed to accommodate approximately 850 students.
“We are so excited about our inaugural year for PreK-6 students beginning this coming August,” stated Bruce Nieminski, Loretta Zumbro’s principal. “I will work to ensure that Loretta Zumbro Elementary School will support the academic and social needs of our students.”
The 73,512-square-foot facility is located at the northwest corner of Lower Buckeye Road and South 183rd Avenue. According to a recent presentation to the school board, construction is 95% complete. The Goodyear City Council approved the annexation of the 16.25-acre site in September, allowing construction to rapidly move forward.
To prepare for the school's opening, the district modified attendance boundaries, affecting students previously assigned to Blue Horizon, Liberty, and Las Brisas Academy campuses.
Loretta Zumbro Elementary will offer a range of programs, including agriculture, performing arts, dual language, leadership, career preparation, International Baccalaureate, and a STEAM curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
The school is named in honor of Loretta Zumbro, a longtime Liberty district educator who served for 38 years as a teacher, coach and athletic director.
