The Agua Fria Union High School District has opened registration for the 2025-2026 school year as it prepares for changes to school boundaries.
The AFUHSD school board recently approved new attendance boundaries designed to address overcrowding at Canyon View, Desert Edge and Verrado high schools. The changes will also establish a new attendance zone for Goodyear High School, set to open in the coming years. Desert Edge is currently overcrowded by 281 students, while Canyon View exceeds capacity by 288 students. The goal of the boundary adjustments is to better balance enrollment across the district’s high schools and ensure that students have access to quality education without overcrowding.
The changes will affect only three of the district’s five communities, minimizing disruption for most families. Students already enrolled at affected schools will be allowed to remain at their current school, with transportation services provided. Siblings of enrolled students will also be allowed to attend the same school.
“I see these boundaries as more fluid than they’ve ever been,” said former governing board member Tray Terry. “If you’re in our district, our entire district is available to you.”
The district also offers an Open Enrollment process for families interested in attending a school outside their zoned boundaries. The Open Enrollment application for the 2025-2026 school year is now available. Families may apply to attend schools with specialized programs that better meet their child’s needs. Priority for Open Enrollment will be given to siblings of enrolled students and children of district staff members. The district is also evaluating how Open Enrollment will align with specialized academies and programs.
Parents of returning students or incoming freshmen can complete the online registration process now. This year, parents must create a new ParentVue account if they are enrolling a child new to the district, as accounts from elementary schools cannot be transferred. In addition to creating a ParentVue account, parents will need to submit the student's birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency, and a guardian's ID to complete registration.
To register, parents should visit the registration portal, create or log into their ParentVue account, complete the online registration form and upload the required documents. Once processed, parents will receive a confirmation of their child’s enrollment.
Parents needing assistance with registration or questions about the new boundaries can contact their school’s counseling department or visit the AFUHSD website for more information.
