New Life Center has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation to support the center’s emergency shelter that provides housing and services to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
“We were also impressed with New Life Center’s community collaboration, which established the area’s first Sexual Assault Response Team,” stated Julie Gray, president of O’Reilly Automotive Foundation Inc. “With everyone from New Life Center to police officers and advocacy centers working together, survivors are getting even more immediate help when they are in crisis.”
New Life Center offers private casitas for families, along with food, hygiene items, clothing, and laundry facilities. The center also provides a playground, basketball court, and child development center.
“Domestic violence impacts the entire family,” stated Kate Thoene, chief strategy officer for New Life Center. “That’s why we welcome everyone from infants to teenagers, grandparents and pets so that no member of the family is left behind.”
After arriving at New Life Center, each resident works with staff to develop a personalized case management plan that addresses health, emotional well-being, and individual needs. Survivors set goals and define their path to recovery.
New Life Center’s services are funded by donations. The organization runs a thrift store with sales helping to meet expenses. The funding from the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation will help New Life Center serve approximately 350 survivors for a year.
The $20,000 grant is part of the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation’s year-end distribution, which awarded $1 million to 35 nonprofit organizations across the country.
