“Vision & Sound: An African American Experience” is underway with a statewide series of free public arts programs highlighting the work of African American artists in Arizona.
The annual, multi-city initiative includes visual art exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, demonstrations and musical performances taking place in Sedona, Goodyear, Peoria and Tolleson through March. Programs are open to the public and are designed to provide access to a range of visual and performing arts disciplines.
In Goodyear, a free exhibition is on view from Jan. 29 through March 31 at the Georgia T. Lord Library, 1900 N. Civic Square.
The exhibition features works in multiple mediums, including painting, sculpture and mixed media, by artists Antoinette Cauley, Jacqueline Chanda, Randiesia Fletcher, Chas Frisco, Khandra Howard, Jenita Landrum, Isse Maloi, Philip Gabriel Steverson, Maxx Valentine and George Welch.
Founded in 2014, “Vision & Sound” began as a weeklong exhibition in the West Valley during Black History Month and has since expanded into a statewide program with year-to-year community partnerships.
The program is supported by the City of Goodyear along with other municipal, nonprofit and private partners. More information is available at visionandsound.org.
