Goodyear safety officials outline firework rules

Posted

Local emergency services and city officials are reminding Goodyear residents of municipal codes and safety regulations governing the use of consumer fireworks ahead of the Independence Day holiday.

Under Arizona revised statutes and Goodyear city code, only specific consumer fireworks are permitted for public use, and operations are restricted to a designated seasonal window running through July 6.

Municipal regulations strictly prohibit any consumer fireworks that detonate or launch into the air, including bottle rockets, aerial shells, and roman candles. Legal consumer devices are limited to ground-based or hand-held items, such as fountains, sparklers, smoke devices, wheels, and ground spinners.

The city has established specific operational hours for legal fireworks use:

  • Standard Days June 24 – July 6: Permitted between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
  • Holiday Exception, July 4 and July 5: Permitted extended hours from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. the following morning.

Even during these periods, fireworks are entirely prohibited on all public property within city limits. Prohibited areas include city parks, public streets, sidewalks, municipal parking lots, public school campuses, and city buildings. Additionally, fireworks are banned within a one-mile radius of the Corgett Wash, the Agua Fria River and Estrella Mountain Regional Park due to heightened wildfire risks.

Consumer fireworks may only be used on private property.

Local authorities warned that violations of Goodyear's fireworks ordinances carry civil fines of up to $1,000.

Residents can review full safety guidelines and structural maps of restricted zones at goodyearaz.gov.
