Litchfield Park museum hosts free Wright brothers Discovery Day

Posted

The P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center is hosting a free, kid-friendly "Discovery Day" event in August celebrating the achievements of aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright.

Timed in honor of Orville Wright's birth month, the event explores the direct historical connections between the Wright Brothers, aviation advancements, and the West Valley. Participating children will have the opportunity to engage in interactive STEM and art activities, including crafting their own model of the historic Wright Glider.

Discovery Days are held monthly at the center to connect young learners and families to Southwest Valley history through hands-on educational programming.

Visitors can also explore the center's ongoing exhibition, Lighter-Than-Air Balloons, Blimps, and Dirigibles. The display traces airship history from 18th-century ballooning through 20th-century defense and transport airships.

The collection highlights the pivotal roles played by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. of Akron, Ohio, and Goodyear Aircraft-Arizona in developing American dirigible technology.

For information about Discovery Days or the center’s programs, visit the P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center at 13912 W. Camelback Road or visit pwlhc.org for more information.
