The Georgia T. Lord Library will host a new community art exhibition celebrating the aesthetic beauty of food, with an opening reception scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7.
Titled “Kitchen Creations,” the exhibit explores how everyday foods, from baked goods to grilled meals, can be appreciated as visual works of art. The free reception, hosted by the city of Goodyear’s Arts & Culture Commission, will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will feature live music, refreshments and opportunities for attendees to vote on the Artist’s Choice and People’s Choice Awards.
The exhibit will remain on display through Wednesday Oct. 22 at the library, located at 1900 N. Civic Square. Artwork pickup for participating artists is scheduled that day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
City officials state the exhibit aims to encourage local artists to find inspiration in everyday experiences, and to reflect on the beauty found in something as routine as preparing or sharing a meal.
Following "Kitchen Creations," the next exhibit “Futuristic Frontier,” will open in October and invite artists to imagine distant tomorrows shaped by innovation and change. Submissions for that show are due by Monday, Sept. 29.
