The P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center will present its next Heritage Lecture, “Eyewitness to History: The Evolution of Photojournalism in Phoenix,” on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Goodyear City Hall.
Chuck Emmert, former chief photographer for KPNX-TV, will discuss the development of television photojournalism in the Phoenix area. His presentation will cover the demands of reporting on fast-moving events such as fires, natural disasters and crime scenes, as well as the technical challenges of filming and editing before the advent of digital technology.
Emmert will also reflect on the persistence required of early television news crews and the evolving standards of the profession.
The program will recognize photojournalism pioneer Carol Lynde, the first female TV news photographer in Phoenix and the first local woman allowed to film in the Phoenix Suns locker room.
The Heritage Lecture Series is presented six times a year by the P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center in partnership with the city of Goodyear.
The event is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. at Goodyear City Hall, 1900 N. Civic Square.
