Runners and walkers of all ages will gather at Goodyear Ballpark on Feb. 7, for the 21st annual Heart & Sole 5K and 1-Mile Race, an event held to kick off National Heart Health Month.
The community fitness event, scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon, promotes heart-healthy activity and features a 5K run and walk, a 1-mile fun run and walk, and a rucking division, a weighted walking competition inspired by military training. The race is open to participants of all experience levels.
Activities begin with a warm-up at 8:30 a.m. The 5K race starts at 9 a.m., followed by the rucking 5K at 9:05 a.m. and the 1-mile race at 9:10 a.m. Awards for the 5K will be presented at 10 a.m.
Packet pickup will be held at Goodyear Ballpark, 1933 S. Ballpark Way, from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6. Participants may also pick up packets on race morning beginning at 7:30 a.m. Each registered runner will receive a race bib and commemorative T-shirt, while supplies last. All finishers will receive medals, and additional awards will be given to top 5K finishers in each age group.
Age divisions for the 5K range from 10 and under to 80 and older.
The rucking division requires participants to walk the 5K course carrying a weighted backpack. Competitors under 150 pounds must carry 10 pounds, while those over 150 pounds must carry 20 pounds. Participants must provide their own backpacks and weights.
Registration for all events is $15, with prices increasing after Jan. 7, 2026. Space is limited for each race category.
Organizers said the annual event encourages families and community members to take part in heart-healthy activity while celebrating more than two decades of the Heart & Sole race.
