Goodyear showcases senior talent in fine art exhibit

Posted

The City of Goodyear is celebrating the creative talents of its senior community with the Creative Aging Fine Art Show, now on display at the Loma Linda Community Center. Presented by the Goodyear Arts & Culture Commission in partnership with Catitude Arts, the exhibit features 37 original works created by 11 local artists aged 55 and older, all participants in the city’s Creative Aging program.

Running through September 24, the exhibit is the culmination of a season of artistic exploration and expression through painting, sculpture, and other visual media. The public is invited to attend a special Artist Reception on the exhibits closing day, Wednesday. Sept. 24 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at the Georgia T. Lord Library, 1900 N Civic Square. At the reception, the public can meet the artists and learn more about their work and creative journeys.

Creative Aging is part of a national movement that emphasizes the powerful connection between creative expression and improved quality of life for older adults. Goodyear’s local program includes hands-on workshops in both visual and performing arts and is open to residents aged 55 and up.

Classes are held at the Loma Linda Community Center, located at 420 E Loma Linda Blvd. Registration for the program is free for Goodyear residents and $10 for non-residents, with a $25 materials fee payable to Catitude Arts on the first day of class.
