The City of Goodyear is seeking artists to participate in a live mural experience as part of its Juneteenth Family Day celebration, with applications due by Saturday, April 19.
Selected artists will design and create 10-by-10-foot temporary murals reflecting themes of Juneteenth, family and community. The murals will be displayed during the event, scheduled for Saturday, June 19 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Goodyear High School, 17300 W. Van Buren St.
Organizers say the interactive experience is intended to foster community engagement while celebrating culture, creativity and connection. This year’s theme, “Homecoming,” encourages artists to explore ideas of freedom, unity, heritage and belonging in a family-friendly format.
Artists will complete their murals off-site and return them by Saturday, June 12, then attend the event to engage with attendees and discuss their work. Participants are responsible for supplying their own materials and maintaining a safe workspace during the event. The mural surfaces and finished works will remain the property of the city.
The opportunity is open to individual artists, teams and educational institutions. Selected artists will receive $1,250, with $500 paid upon selection and $750 upon completion and approval of the final work.
