Goodyear seeks artist submissions for “Kitchen Creations” exhibit

Posted

The city of Goodyear is calling on West Valley artists to explore the visual beauty of food in its upcoming fine art exhibit, “Kitchen Creations,” set to run from August through October at the Georgia T. Lord Library, 1900 N. Civic Square.

The exhibit invites artists to showcase the artistry found in everyday meals, from the soft layers of a perfectly baked cake to the textured char of grilled meats. The goal is to highlight the visual appeal and emotional resonance of food through two-dimensional artwork.

Submissions open Monday, June 16, and close Friday, June 20.

Artists must be 18 or older and reside in the West Valley. Up to two original works may be submitted per artist, and accepted media includes any two-dimensional format, such as painting, drawing, or photography. Each submission must include a digital image in JPG format, along with a title, creation year, medium, dimensions, and a short artist statement explaining how the piece connects to the theme.

Entries must be submitted online, including a waiver form and certification that the artwork does not include any AI-generated elements. All work must be presentation-ready with hanging hardware installed. Artwork that is not properly prepared for display may be disqualified.

A jury panel composed of professional artists, city staff, and members of the academic community will review submissions. Judging will be based on artistic quality, originality, composition, and relevance to the food-inspired theme.

Artists whose work is selected will be notified by Thursday, July 10. Accepted pieces must be dropped off at Goodyear City Hall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, July 11.

The exhibit opens Thursday, August 7. An artist reception will be held Wednesday, October 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., providing an opportunity for attendees to meet participating artists and view the work in person.

More information and the submission form are available through the city of Goodyear’s Arts & Culture Division.
