Local emergency management and public safety officials are urging West Valley residents to review seasonal safety protocols as extreme summer temperatures rise and the annual Arizona monsoon season approaches.
The localized guidelines detail city-specific resources and infrastructure support designed to mitigate severe weather risks throughout the state's official monsoon window, which runs annually from June 15 through Sept. 30.
To assist residents with seasonal hazards, the city is deploying several public utility and emergency services:
Goodyear311: A mobile application and digital portal for reporting immediate localized service requests, such as clearing fallen trees and storm debris from public roadways.
Sandbag Distribution: Free sand and operational bags are available at multiple designated municipal stations ahead of anticipated heavy rainfall and flash flood events.
GY Alerts: A free notification service that transmits real-time emergency updates and severe weather warnings directly to registered users via text, email, or voice message.
Regional fire and rescue personnel emphasized the distinction between automated weather alerts, noting that a monsoon watch indicates favorable conditions for storm development, whereas a warning signals that a severe weather event is imminent or actively occurring.
Officials issued distinct survival strategies for common regional hazards, advising drivers caught in zero-visibility dust storms to pull entirely off the roadway, place their vehicle in park, and turn off all operational lights. For flash flooding, drivers are ordered to avoid low-water crossings, as 18 inches of moving water can displace most standard vehicles.
