The city of Goodyear is encouraging residents to prepare for severe summer weather by signing up for its free emergency notification system and utilizing complimentary sandbag locations across the city.
Through the "GY Alerts" Emergency Alert Program, residents can receive time-sensitive safety warnings for fast-changing monsoon storms, unexpected road closures, building evacuations, and missing person reports. Users can customize how and where they receive updates, including options for text messages, phone calls or emails.
To help protect homes and property from potential localized flooding caused by heavy monsoon downpours, the city is providing free sand and bags at three self-service locations:
Thomas Park: Thomas Road and 144th Avenue
Roscoe Dog Park: Estrella Parkway, south of MC85
Goodyear Fire Station 182: 10701 S. Estrella Parkway
Supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and residents must bring their own shovels to fill the bags.
Residents can sign up for emergency notifications and learn more about local storm resources by visiting goodyearaz.gov.
