In celebration of Veterans Day, the City of Goodyear invites the community to participate in a week-long series of events dedicated to honoring local heroes. Starting Tuesday, Nov. 5 residents are encouraged to visit Goodyear Civic Square to take part in a variety of activities honoring military service members.
From Tuesday, Nov. 5, to Monday, Nov. 11, visitors to Goodyear City Hall can pick up a Veteran Appreciation Yard Sign, write a heartfelt message to a veteran, and plant a flag in the park’s Flag Garden.
As part of the festivities, ten commissioned artists will be on-site throughout the week creating 8-foot murals that bring patriotism to life. These works of art will be displayed during the festival on Monday, Nov. 11.
The week will conclude with a community gathering from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11 at Goodyear Civic Square. The event will feature a concert, murals, and activities for kids.
Food lovers can also enjoy a variety of delicious offerings from veteran-owned food trucks, including C.H.E.W. Philly, Mark's Best BBQ, Cuties Lemonade, Bereisheet 129 Vegan and Kabobski. In appreciation of their service, the first 250 veterans to attend the event will receive a $10 credit towards food truck purchases.
In addition to the celebration, the city is collecting stories from local veterans to create an exhibit that will be featured at the community gathering. Residents are encouraged to submit their stories, either for themselves or a loved one, to be honored at the event. These stories may also be shared in the city's publications, including its website and social media channels.
