Deadline nears for library mural submissions

Posted

Arizona-based artists have until Monday, July 28, to apply for a public art project at the Downtown Buckeye Library, funded by the Friends of the Library.

The city and Friends of the Library are seeking proposals for a new mural installation in the library’s Programming Room at 310 6th St. Artists are asked to submit five portfolio images and respond to questions about their creative vision and community engagement plans.

Two finalists will each receive $1,000 to develop a concept design. One artist will be selected to complete the final mural across two 72-by-48-inch canvases, earning an additional $14,000. The finished work will feature an open book with literature-inspired characters emerging from its pages.

Submissions will be reviewed by the Community Services Advisory Board’s Subcommittee for Arts & Culture. Designs must reflect the diverse interests of Buckeye residents and appeal to all ages.

Only original artwork will be accepted; reimagined characters are allowed, copyrighted designs are not.

Visit buckeyeaz.gov for more information and to apply.
