Estrella Mountain Regional Park and Maricopa County are encouraging residents to get outside as the weather cools down.
The 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge returns Saturday, Nov. 1, encouraging hikers, runners, cyclists, and horseback riders to log 100 or 200 miles on county trails by Feb. 8, 2026.
Last season, 610 participants completed the challenge, collectively covering more than 101,000 miles across regional parks and trails.
“With more than 600 miles of trails to explore, Maricopa County’s parks are the perfect place to get outdoors and enjoy the season,” Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Waller said. “This challenge gives everyone a reason to stay active and connect with the natural beauty around us.”
Participants can choose from multiple activity categories: hikers and runners must complete 100 miles, while mountain and e-bikers or horseback riders are asked to complete 200. Those who mix activities must complete at least 75% of their total mileage in one category.
Trekkers are required to visit at least three of the county’s 11 regional parks to qualify.
Participants must record their progress using the county’s 100 Miles in 100 Days app. Mileage must be submitted by 4 p.m. Feb. 8, when the system closes for the season.
Everyone who completes the challenge receives a limited-edition T-shirt, and finishers are entered into a drawing for an annual park pass and $25 Nature Center retail voucher.
