The Creative Arts and Production Academy , known as CAPA, is inviting filmmakers of all ages and experience levels to take part in its third annual CAPA Film Challenge, a 72-hour short film competition beginning Jan. 8.
Registration for the challenge closes Wednesday, Jan. 7. Teams of any size can enter for a $20 fee and do not need to be based in Arizona to participate.
The challenge kicks off with a mandatory meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 8, held both in person at Denny’s, 16970 W. Yuma Road in Goodyear, and via Zoom. During the kickoff, teams will receive specific guidelines, including a required theme, line of dialogue and prop.
Once the challenge begins, teams will have 72 hours to write, film and edit a family-friendly short film of up to five minutes. Films must be submitted by 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges.
The top 10 films will be screened Jan. 26 at Harkins Estrella Falls, followed by an awards ceremony. Films that do not meet the family-friendly requirements will be disqualified, and registration fees are nonrefundable.
The competition is open to all ages, all experience levels and participants from any state. No prior filmmaking experience is required.
CAPA was founded by West Valley Teen Events, a group of parents seeking to create community opportunities for homeschool students. The organization now provides artistic, cultural and educational programs throughout the Southwest Valley, including theater performances and showcases, with support from board members, staff, interns, parents and volunteers.
More information and registration details are available at capaaz.org.
