Posted

The Agua Fria High School District celebrated two outgoing board members, Gina DeCoste and Trey Terry, at their Wednesday, Dec. 11 meeting. According to a statement made by the district on their meeting agenda, AFUHSD officials are deeply grateful for the service of the board members serving their district.

Board President DeCoste, who served eight years, and Terry, who served four years, were recognized for their contributions to the district.

The remaining board members had recorded speeches expressing their thanks and Superintendent Mark Yslascongratulated them on their terms.

“If you know Gina and Trey, you know they are very active in what they do, they are not passive leaders,” said Superintendent Mark Yslas.

Yslas put up a list of highlighted milestones that the district achieved over the last four years as he worked with the board members and shared memories and lessons he learned from each member.

At the end of the meeting, Terry and DeCoste gave closing statements:

“As I move on to serve the city of goodyear on the city council I’ll carry a lot of lessons and experiences from these last four years,” Terry said. “I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of our community.”

“When people come here, they put roots down and when I came here, I wanted to be on the board and make a difference, but I couldn’t help but to get rooted in what was going on with so many wonderful and exciting people to work with,” DeCoste said. “It’s been an honor.” DeCoste took the time to recognize the team that she grew with professionally over her time working at the district.

Two new board members, Sarah Lewis-Silk and Corby Hopkins Naylor, were voted in by the public to fill the vacancies. Lewis-Silk is an educator with experience as a teacher, principal, and HR recruiter. Naylor is an educator with 23 years of experience, having worked as a teacher, principal, and educational consultant. They will join returning board members Kristen Acton, Eric Cultum, and Vickie Landis in January 2025 to serve the AFUHSD community.
