Goodyear hosts a Night Market on April 26.
Posted
The Goodyear Night Market is returning this spring with events on Sunday, April 27, and Sunday, May 25, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Goodyear Civic Square.
Hosted in partnership with Empowering Latina Leaders in Arizona (E.L.L.A.) and Mujeres Mercado, the event will feature shopping, entertainment, and a variety of food options.
The night market includes a selection of vendors offering handmade goods and products from local entrepreneurs. Food trucks and live music will round out the evening, providing a community-centered space for families and residents to enjoy.
Mujeres Mercado, a nonprofit marketplace featured at the event, began as a way to raise awareness about Latina Equal Pay Day, which highlights the wage gap between Latinas and white, non-Hispanic men. According to Equal Pay Today, a Latina Equal Pay Day organization, Latinas typically earn about 58 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men, with Latina Equal Pay Day marking how far into the following year they must work to match annual earnings.
Founded by Arizona business owner Stephanie Vasquez, Mujeres Mercado launched with 15 businesses and has since expanded to become a large-scale market platform for entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities.
E.L.L.A. reports that the initiative has generated over $1 billion in economic activity and supported hundreds of small business owners throughout Arizona.
The Goodyear Night Market is free and open to the public. More information is available at goodyearaz.gov/events.
