Litchfield school district to approve construction contract for new school

Posted

The Litchfield Elementary School District governing board is set to approve the final construction contract for Troy Gilbert Elementary School, the district’s 17th campus, during a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25.

The board will vote on a $40.2 million contract with CORE Construction that will allow the company to complete the school’s construction. The total project cost is $41.6 million.

Troy Gilbert Elementary is being built as part of the district’s 2023 bond projects. Construction contracts have been phased, with an initial agreement covering design and ordering of electrical components at no cost, a second contract for $1.36 million to complete site preparation work such as clearing and temporary fencing, and this final contract covering the remainder of construction costs.

The school, which will be near Perryville Road and Glendale Avenue, is expected to open in fall 2026. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for April 22, and substantial completion is scheduled for July 15, 2026.

In addition to approving the construction contract, the board will hear an update from Principal Luke Jankee regarding the school’s mascot and colors.

The Litchfield Elementary School District, which has operated for more than 107 years, serves more than 10,500 students across Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear and Litchfield Park, with 16 schools currently in its district.
