Goodyear seeks artists to create Veterans Day murals

Posted

The city of Goodyear is calling on artists to help commemorate Veterans Day with a series of temporary murals at Civic Square Park.

Ten artists will be selected to design and paint 8-foot by 8-foot murals that honor military service and patriotic themes. Work will take place onsite Nov. 3-7, leading up to the city’s Veterans Day Tribute on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The public will be invited to observe the creative process throughout the week.

The murals, featuring imagery such as the American flag, military branches and other patriotic symbols, will remain on display until the conclusion of the Veterans Day event, scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 11 at 1900 N. Civic Square.

The opportunity is open to individual artists, teams and educational institutions. Each selected artist will receive $1,250 in compensation, with $500 paid at the start of the project and $750 upon completion. Artists are responsible for providing their own materials.

Applications must be submitted online no later than Monday Sept. 29. Required materials include a letter of interest, an artist statement and up to five digital images of past work.

Finalists will be notified Oct. 3.
