Goodyear prepares for flag football season

The Goodyear Youth Flag Football League is set to return for the 2024-2025 winter season with registration for the league opens for Goodyear residents at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Non-residents will be able to register starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 if spots remain.

Early registration is encouraged as spaces are expected to fill quickly.

Practices will begin the week of December 16, with games starting on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Both practices and games will take place at the Goodyear Recreation Campus multipurpose fields, located at 420 S. Estrella Parkway.

The league offers several age divisions accepting all athletes: 5-6 year olds, 7-8 year olds, 9-10 year olds and 11-12 years, with a registration fee of $90 for residents and $110 for non-residents.

Players may only "play up" in age divisions if they are within one year of the higher division, with no exceptions for the 5-6 age division. Participants' ages are determined by their age on the first game date.

Practices will be held one to two nights per week, from Monday to Friday, between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m., based on coach availability.

The league is seeking volunteer coaches; interested individuals can apply online and will undergo a background check as part of the process.

Players will receive game uniforms, including an Arizona Cardinals reversible jersey, a flag belt, and a mouthguard. Parents are responsible for replacing any lost mouthguards, with uniforms distributed during the first practice.
