McDonald’s restaurants in Goodyear and Litchfield Park raised more than $9,798 for 19 local schools during the annual McTeacher’s Night Challenge in February.
During the event, a portion of sales from a two-hour period benefited each participating school. The schools included Centerra Mirage, Dreaming Summit, Scott Libby, Desert Thunder, Westar, Las Brisas Academy, Canyon Breeze, Michael Anderson, Rancho Santa Fe, Litchfield Elementary, Eliseo Felix, American Leadership Academy West Foothills, Wildflower, Rainbow Valley, Corte Sierra, Luke, Copper Trails, Desert Star, and Mabel Padgett.
Copper Trails took first place in the fundraising challenge, earning an additional $1,000 donation for a total of $1,641. Westar placed second, receiving an additional $500 for a total of $1,064, while Centerra Mirage finished third with an extra $250, bringing its total to $780.
Since 2009, the McDonald’s restaurants, owned by the Mellon family, have raised $176,791 for Southwest Valley schools.
"We are thrilled to continue our tradition of supporting our local schools through the McTeacher's Night Challenge,” said Darian Mellon, McDonald’s owner. “It's more than just a fundraising event; it's a way for us to connect with our community and make a meaningful impact. Our commitment to the Southwest Valley schools remains a cornerstone of our family's mission as local business owners."
