The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services will host a workshop on veterans' benefits and services from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Georgia T. Lord Library in the Programming Room.
This information session, led by Outreach Coordinator Dana West, aims to help veterans and their families navigate available resources. West served two years as a Private First Class in the Army specializing in Human Intelligence Collection at Fort Bragg before transitioning into her role at ADVS.
ADVS provides vital services across the state, including access to over 50 professional benefit counselors, two skilled-nursing facilities in Phoenix and Tucson, and three veterans' memorial cemeteries. The department plays a crucial role in coordinating support for veterans, especially those facing homelessness and specific needs among women veterans.
"One of the things I hear most is that Veterans don't know where to start when it comes to benefits and resources," West stated. "ADVS' mission to serve our Veteran community is close to my heart and it has provided me the opportunity to connect with Veterans in their spaces where they are working and living in their communities."
The workshop takes place just before Veterans Day, observed on November 11, a day dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of military veterans. This event will provide an opportunity for veterans to learn more about the services available to them and how to access the support they need, fostering a greater community understanding of their contributions and challenges.
