Goodyear hosts Nature’s Beauty art show

Posted

The city of Goodyear is showcasing art exhibits at the Georgia T. Lord Library, offering local artists the opportunity to display their work inspired by nature.

The exhibit, themed “Nature’s Beauty,” invites artists and onlookers to take notice of natural landscapes and scenes.

An artist reception was Aug. 22 to celebrate the community’s involvement in the arts. There was a broad attendance of art lovers, city officials and library passersby enjoying the live music, snacks and conversations with the artists.

Those in attendance had the chance to vote on a people’s choice award winner and selected a piece by personal trainer and digital artist Mikaylah Delpueche.

This artwork was created with the intention of invoking the tranquility I find in the quietness of nature,” Delpueche said, “a sensory release, floating, almost sinking, into the world around you. Embraced in lilies and fallen leaves.”

Delpueche’s artwork, titled, “Daydreams of Lilies,” was a multimedia piece featuring a print of her digital work. “Daydreams of Lilies,” has a figure floating in a body of water surrounded by lily pads and pond dwelling animals; the picture steps out of the frame with clay lily pads and dangling charms.

“Often times with digital art when it’s printed, I don’t think it captures everything about it so that’s why I wanted to transfer the play onto the frame to bring it out of the piece a little bit,” Delpueche said.

“Daydreams of Lilies” was Delpueche’s first submission into an art show.

“I thought, why not try? This is (my) community, and after living here for so long I thought I’d get involved in a way that wasn’t overwhelming,” Delpueche said.

Delpueche was not the only first-time submission. Francisco Flores submitted art to a Goodyear show for the first time and had his plaster art displayed.

Flores is a financial analyst who has made art as a hobby for years. He said he only recently started working with plaster as a medium. Flores’s piece, “Ariel Canyons,” uses dynamic color and texture to show a river from birds-eye view.

“I regularly dream of flying over canyons that are flowing with water,” Flores said, “as I take in the sight from above, a stark contrast of land and water that somehow seems balanced, I feel peaceful.”

Flores said the community diversity of art and the amount of community support was surprising.

“I didn’t know what to expect from the arts community, but it’s been nice,” Flores said, “I feel comfortable in the mix”

The Arts and Culture Division manages Goodyear’s public art program and seeks to bring together the community and enhance the city’s cultural landscape through these exhibits said Goodyear Recreation Programmer Dalton Attig. “The arts pull all of us together, that’s what the event is all about,” Attig said.

The “Nature’s Beauty” exhibit is closing Wednesday, Oct. 23. Following its closure, a “Surreal Scenes” exhibit will take its place exploring dream-inspired art.

Artists are encouraged to submit works that represent imaginative or unusual dreamscapes. The submission window closes Monday, Sept. 16.

The submitted pieces for the coming show will be juried by a panel including art professionals, city staff, and academic members, with criteria focusing on theme adherence, originality, artistic quality, and composition. “Surreal Scenes” is set to open on Thursday, Oct. 24
