Abrazo Health West Campus has completed a $3 million renovation of its catheterization lab, enhancing its technology to support a range of cardiac procedures.
The project, which began in 2023, upgrades both catheterization labs with equipment designed to improve procedural efficiency and patient care.
A catheterization lab is an examination room imaging equipment used to visualize the arteries and chambers of the heart and to treat any abnormality found.
Abrazo's renovated catheterization lab includes a Phillips Azurion C Arm, an imaging system capable of rotating on eight axes. This system allows for both 2D and 3D visualizations, facilitating a variety of procedures.
The upgrades also include high-definition screens, updated tables, and advanced lighting to support various procedures, such as those for heart attacks, heart failure, stent placements, and vascular disease.
"We can do things faster, more efficiently, and safer with the new equipment," stated Dr. Richard Pham, Director of Cardiology.
Since 2022, the number of procedures performed in the cath labs has increased by 58 percent. Pham said that the new technology has contributed to quicker recovery times and improved patient outcomes.
“Abrazo West Campus is committed to continued investment in advanced technology that helps bring access to high acuity care right here in the West Valley. This (catheterization lab) upgrade is the latest iteration of this commitment, and we are excited to see the positive impact it has for the community in the hands of our skilled medical staff and dedicated team members,” stated Hans Driessnack, Abrazo West Campus CEO.
