Goodyear Councilwoman Vicki Gillis has been appointed to the National League of Cities Public Safety and Crime Prevention Federal Advocacy Committee for a one-year term.
In this role, she will assist in developing National League of Cities’ federal advocacy agenda on topics such as crime prevention, substance abuse, gun violence, juvenile justice, homeland security, and disaster preparedness.
The National League of Cities is a nonprofit organization that represents more than 2,700 cities, towns, and villages across the United States. National League of Cities focuses on influencing federal policy to address challenges faced by municipalities.
"The safety of our constituents, and the well-being of those who dedicate their lives to protect us, have always been the heart of my work,” stated Gillis. “This opportunity allows me to bring our voices to the national level."
Gillis will help guide National League of Cities’ policy positions and advocate on behalf of local governments in discussions with Congress, federal agencies, and other local governments.
"(The National League of Cities’) federal advocacy committees play a crucial role in advancing the policies and priorities of America’s 19,000 cities, towns, and villages with federal policymakers," stated Steve Patterson, National League of Cities President and Mayor of Athens, Ohio.
