Goodyear City Council is set to hold a work session at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 at City Hall, 1900 N. Civic Square, featuring a presentation on the city's culture design initiative by Human Resources Director Lyman Locket and Deputy Director Vicki Lackey.
The session will present the results of the recently conducted Gallup survey and provide an update on the city’s ongoing intentional culture design initiative, marking the beginning of an annual reporting cycle for this strategic plan goal.
Since 2014, the city has been proactive in gauging employee satisfaction through biannual surveys, initially using Polco's National Employee Survey. This established framework has allowed for targeted action planning at the department level, resulting in improvements across nearly all categories up until 2018.
In 2019, the city launched the Intentional Design of Goodyear's Culture initiative, focusing on its core values, adaptability, empathy, initiative, innovation, integrity and optimism, while fostering employee growth. This initiative yielded further enhancements in employee ratings.
In the most recent survey conducted in 2022, Goodyear's performance showed ratings above the benchmark on 98 out of 99 data points. Shortly after the survey, the city was recognized as the highest-rated government workplace in the nation by National Research Center at Polco.
In 2022, city of Goodyear employees rated the city at 95% or higher in overall job satisfaction, feeling positive about working for the city, employee values matching or fitting with the values of the city, employees planning on working for the city a year from the survey, if they employees would recommend working for the city to someone who asks and maintaining a work environment that is free of drug or alcohol abuse.
As part of its commitment to ongoing improvement, the city explored alternative survey tools, culminating in the adoption of the Gallup survey in April 2023. The initial feedback from Gallup has been positive, presenting an exciting opportunity for the city to strive for best practice status in workplace culture.
As the city moves forward, tonight’s work session is expected to set the stage for future initiatives aimed at enhancing employee engagement and overall workplace satisfaction in Goodyear.
