Estrella Mountain Regional Park to close trailheads for construction

Posted

Estrella Mountain Regional Park will close its Rainbow Valley and Coldwater trailheads from Monday, Feb. 3 through March 2027 for the construction of a new 50-site campground.

Arena Drive, or 143rd Ave., south of Casey Abbott Drive, will be closed, blocking access to the parking lot and the Rainbow Valley and Coldwater trailheads. These closures will remain in place until the campground’s expected completion in 2027. If the campground is finished earlier, the trailheads will reopen sooner.

The new campground, part of the park's 2016 Master Plan, will be located on the former rodeo arena site and include 50 developed campsites, two restrooms with showers, a fenced equestrian trailhead, a dump station, and five covered host sites. Renovations will also be made to the Rainbow Valley Trailhead.

Visit maricopacountyparks.net for further updates on the closure and campground progress.
