Estrella Mountain Regional Park will host an educational presentation on Thursday, July 17, to help the public better understand bats and their role in the desert ecosystem.
The free event, titled “All About Bats,” runs 11 a.m.-noon at the park’s Nature Center, 14805 W. Vineyard Ave. in Goodyear. The presentation will take place in an air-conditioned classroom and requires no registration.
Visitors will hear a “Fact vs. Fiction” slideshow that explores common misconceptions about bats, their habitat, diet, and behaviors. The session also highlights how bats contribute to the health of the Sonoran Desert.
The Sonoran Desert, which includes Maricopa County, is home to at least 19 species of bats. These include the Mexican free-tailed bat, big brown bat, hoary bat, California leaf-nosed bat, Townsend’s big-eared bat, and others.
Attendees are encouraged to bring water and snacks. Restrooms and drinking water are available at the Nature Center.
