Compass Church held a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday afternoon for its new 18,000-square-foot worship facility in Goodyear, marking a major milestone in the church’s ongoing expansion efforts.
Located at 16060 W. Van Buren St., the $6.7 million project was designed by Phoenix-based CCBG Architects, Inc. and is scheduled for completion in April 2026. The single-story facility will include a new worship space, classrooms, expanded parking, and landscaped outdoor areas.
The new building will serve as the central hub of Compass Church’s 10-acre campus, integrating existing structures with a design aimed at supporting the congregation’s spiritual growth.
The architecture incorporates a new, 800-seat worship space that provides a seamless connection to transformed existing buildings. A tower, featuring a cross, signals entry and acts as a welcoming gesture to Van Buren Street, said Paul Ladensack, principal at CCBG Architects.
Ladensack said the firm’s goal was to create an environment that fosters connection, worship, and community growth.
The church’s pastor, Ronn Smith, said the project is part of Compass Church’s “Gaining Ground” initiative, a two-year vision focused on expanding the church’s reach and capacity to serve the West Valley community.
"This new facility will provide a space where our community can experience God's love and grow in their faith,” said Smith. “We are grateful for the support of our congregation and the community as we embark on this exciting new chapter.”
According to the church, more than $7 million has already been committed to the project through its fundraising campaign.
Compass Church plans to use the new auditorium, lobby and children’s classrooms to support its mission of community outreach and spiritual development.
