Agua Fria schools spent $143M in FY25

Posted

The Agua Fria High School District submitted its annual financial report for the 2025 fiscal year, stating the district spent more than $143 million last school year while developing two new high schools to serve the growing West Valley.

The report, recently approved by the school board and sent to the Arizona Department of Education, provides a detailed look at the district’s spending from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

Agua Fria issued $100 million in new bonds last year, funding that is being used to expand the district through new high school campuses with Goodyear High School operating with its first incoming class this school year and Hilltop School for the Arts opening in August 2026. The projects come as enrollment continues to rise in fast-growing areas like Goodyear, Buckeye, and Litchfield Park.

Even with big construction plans moving forward, most of the district’s money last year went directly into schools and instruction:

  • $53.2 million was spent on classroom instruction like teacher salaries.
  • Another $3 million went toward classroom supplies.
  • Services that support students including counselors, nurses, and transportation  totaled $11.3 million.
  • School maintenance and operations cost the district $16.2 million.

The average teacher salary increased in fiscal year 2025, up $35 from the year before. That brought the average salary to $69,135.

Despite major bond-funded construction and regular operational costs, the district ended the year with more than $93 million still in its main fund balances. This reserve helps protect against unexpected costs and positions the district for future needs.
