Graduating seniors from across the Agua Fria High School District will experience changes to their upcoming graduation ceremonies due to a scheduling conflict at State Farm Stadium.
The district’s six high schools, Agua Fria, Agua Fria Online, Canyon View, Desert Edge, Goodyear, Millennium, and Verrado, will now hold their ceremonies at a different venue and on a new date.
Agua Fria Superintendent Mark Yslas informed the community State Farm Stadium notified the district last week that a larger event would take precedence, requiring the district to adjust its plans. This issue has affected multiple districts, not just Agua Fria, and the district is working to secure a new venue and date for the ceremonies.
“I want to inform you of an unexpected change regarding our upcoming graduation ceremonies. State Farm Stadium notified us last week that a larger event is taking precedence, requiring us to adjust our plans,” Yslas stated. “While I understand this may be disappointing, our district remains committed to creating a memorable celebration for our graduates and their families.”
The updated graduation ceremony details are as follows:
To accommodate the change, the district adjusted its academic calendar. The last day of school for all graduating seniors will be Friday, May 9.
Monday, May 12, will be a district-wide day off for all grade levels, allowing both staff and families to attend the graduation ceremonies.
Further details regarding changes to the schedule, including adjustments for testing, awards banquets, and other end-of-year events, will be shared by school principals on Feb. 17.
The district appreciates the community’s understanding as it works to ensure a successful graduation experience for its students and families.
