Abrazo honors World Heart Day

Posted

On Sunday, September 29, the global community will observe World Heart Day, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases, which are the leading cause of death in the United States.

According to the Center for Desesase Control, one person dies from heart disease approximately every 36 seconds.

World Heart Day emphasizes the importance of preventive measures and lifestyle changes to combat cardiovascular diseases, which can lead to serious health issues such as heart attacks and strokes.

“Every person can lower their risk of preventable cardiovascular disease by seeing a health care provider for screenings and practicing healthy behaviors like not smoking, eating nutritious foods, and exercising regularly,” says Dr. Kristina Skinner from Biltmore Cardiology at Abrazo Health.

To mitigate these risks, experts recommend eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly and avoiding tobacco use.  Abrazo Health is partnering with the American Heart Association for the second annual West Valley Heart Walk on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Goodyear Civic Square.

This event aims to leverage community strengths to raise funds for research, education, and advocacy for heart health.

Registration is free, and participants can form teams, join existing teams, or register individually.

The day will kick off with pre-walk festival activities at 9 a.m., followed by the Heart Walk at 10 a.m.

By participating in the Heart Walk, individuals contribute to life-saving research, CPR training, medical breakthroughs, and efforts toward equitable health access.

Visit abrazohealth.com for more information and to register for the Heart Walk.
