Adults looking for a unique outdoor experience can explore the Riparian Preserve after dark during a guided night hike scheduled for Oct. 30.
The 90-minute program, led by Riparian Preserve staff, will take participants on a roughly one-mile guided walk through the preserve beginning at 6 p.m. Hikers will learn about nocturnal desert wildlife, including scorpions, owls, bats and other animals that become active after sunset.
The event is open to participants ages 18 and older and will meet at the Dragonfly Ramada. Naturalist Lisa Blue will serve as the instructor.
Organizers encourage participants to wear closed-toe shoes and bring a headlamp equipped with a red light if available. Pets are not permitted.
The program is part of Gilbert's outdoor recreation offerings and provides an opportunity for residents to learn about local ecosystems while experiencing nature in a nighttime setting.
