Sun City area museum celebrates African, Native American heritage

An interactive cultural space dedicated to exploring the historic connections between African and Native American traditions will celebrate its grand opening on 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, at Sevilla Sol Community, 10201 N. 99th Ave.

The Sankofa Medicine Wheel Museum and Art Studio, founded by Sun City resident Dr. Lydia A. Woods, is an extension of the nonprofit organization Drum Arizona. The museum highlights the intertwined histories of African people and Native Americans in the United States and the cultural legacy that emerged from their shared experiences.

The public is invited to attend the grand opening celebration, which will include refreshments, guided exploration of the museum’s exhibits and hands-on cultural experiences.
